Abajo Haven--site of July 21-23 Wilcox reunion

This is Abajo Haven site of this year's reunion. It's only about 7.3 miles from Blanding, but is a really nice facility, especially for little kids. When they get bigger, we'll expect them to be real campers.

There are four cabins, each sleeping 4 people.  There are 2 restrooms central to the cabins, each with a shower.  The whole facility is earth friendly and solor powered.  No electricity is available at the camp site.  The cabins are newer and a bit larger than the ones at Camp Jackson.

Even though there is a pond, it's mainly for the ducks, not for swimming. It's only about 4 miles N. to Dry Wash which is beautiful this year, still with water...or about 4 M East to Recapture.
There is a large grassy area, for running, softball, football, whatever, and it's mowed.

At one corner is a cooking area.  They provide tables and benches, and even 3 burner stove, though we could cook under the Pavilion if it should rain.  There is a smaller grassy area good for tents, and also two RV spots.  However, trailers could also be parked under the pavilion.

The Havens bought this place 5 years ago from the Shumways who originally built it.  He will take groups on hikes up to a ruin in Recapture, and/or show where the original ditch was built coming from Johnson Creek at no additional charge.  He would also be willing to do a demo on horse training for the kids.  Originally they did trail rides, but the insurance cost became prohibitive, but he has lots of nice horses.  Another hike trail goes up to Johnson Creek.  There are also ATV trails adjacent to the property, going in several directions.

Other than no electricity, the only other negative is their "no dogs" policy because of the wild animals on or near the property.  So Leah, Max and Annie would have to sleep elsewhere.  But as you can see, they do have their own a friendly dog.  Last year, they helped DWR keep several turkey flocks alive through our hard winter, feeding them over 500 lbs. of grain.  This is their web site: http://www.abajohaven.com/

The whole place rents for $285 a day/night.  We were impressed with it, and you couldn't find a nicer guy as manager.  He is a former horse trainer from Grand Junction.  Their phone # is 435-979-3126, in case you have questions.
